Afgekort: GNI*.
Een door het Ierse bureau van statistiek (Central Statistics Office) berekende variant op het bruto nationaal inkomen (bni) - in het Engels 'Gross National Income' (GNI). Deze variant wordt daarom aangeduid met een sterretje, dus als GNI*.
In deze sinds juli 2017 naast het normale bni (GNI) gepubliceerde berekening wordt het bruto nationaal inkomen geschoond van geldstromen die te maken hebben met globalisering, en feitelijk niets met de fundamenten van de Ierse economie. De Ierse economie blijkt door deze correctie een stuk kleiner te zijn dan het traditionele bni doet vermoeden.
Voorbeeld
'The outcome was sobering. Using GDP data, the value of the Irish economy in 2016 was €275bn. Using GNI*, it was just €190bn. The lower figure was reached by excluding the profits of US companies with big operations in Ireland, such as Google, Microsoft and Pfizer, and the effects of the depreciation of the assets domiciled in Ireland by the aircraft leasing sector, for which Dublin is a global hub.'

De zoektocht naar deze nieuwe berekening ontstond nadat in 2016 de Ierse economie met een ongelofelijke omvang van 26 procent was gegroeid na de interne herstructurering van in Ierland gevestigde onderdelen van multinationals.
